Baby's day out featuring the curious, charismatic and giggly sweet Rosaleigh. Celebrating her one year birthday meant this sweetheart and her baby crew were going to bring Alice in Wonderland to her debut. Her favorite part of this session was undoubtedly seeing her reflection in the mirror. Everyone at her session was in complete awe and was by far the cutest reaction to witness. Instantly, I knew these would become the memoirs to print & have in her first year's birthday heirloom box to highlight the giggles & remembrance for mom, grandma and her aunt who stood by and made sure that her baby's day out debut was full of excitement behind the scenes. This session was an absolute success and the biggest factor that played into it running smoothly was that mom was involved throughout the entire process, baby Rosaleigh had her bottle shortly before so she was full of energy and lastly, her grandma and aunt were on standby to make Rosaleigh feel so at home. When it comes to the aftermath and processing of print keepsake boxes, for babies, it's personal and beyond adorable. Go for the gold -- unposed & unplanned.
If I were to choose which photos to select for canvases, I'd likely go for something happy and joyful which are the candids of her smiling and giggling. She didn't enjoy her cake after about 5 minutes of eating which was to be expected considering the amount of sugar. However, in that 5 minutes, I was still able to rely on the quickness of my camera to capture the cake, cake smash and miss Rosaleigh giggling as she created a never-seen-before picasso cake mural on her baby blanket.
Overall, this session went perfectly and smoother than butter. It was a perfectly lit evening for her session, she was excited for photos and her curiosity peered in every which way. This is the priceless kind of session. One day, she will be having her graduation photos & then onto her bridal portraits. Having this image of her giggling at her reflection in the mirror foreshadows the future heirloom collection she will be able to add to her first photo session. It's a very traditional shot to capture during graduation sessions and bridal portraits in using the mirror. When I shoot brides & grooms during their mirror look before they walk down the aisle, I make sure to send everyone out of the room so we can have the 3-5 minutes of those moments of serenity with self reflection as one heads into the next chapter. Baby sessions always remind me of the wedding chapter. Time will fly by and they'll all become one collection of someone's life memories. It's incredible to know that as a photographer, we stop time and one day, someone will pull out all of our work and the return investment is.. maybe grandma and miss Rosaleigh, anyone going down memory lane, pull out the photos decades later and laugh about the memory behind the giggles. I couldn't trade this medium for anything. Such a lovely thing.
Combine baby photography with the hope of the future and you have an heirloom collection in every individual's life and journey. This is where the magic happens -- watching every beautiful human be their own magic.
Miss Rosaleigh had such a fantastic time during her Alice in Wonderland session that she is already planning her next session for the end of summer and it will be adorable as ever! Stay tuned for more sweetness here at Marla Collective. I have found absolute joy in these simpler moments and look forward to helping families plan all seasons & exciting themes to joyfully mark each milestone of smiles to remember.
With love,
